A federal court has ruled to uphold several state marriage laws for the first time.
The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will uphold state-defined marriage laws for Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. These states mostly define marriage as between “one man and one woman”, and currently don’t recognize gay marriages.
Federal courts have overturned gay marriage bans in most states. Gay marriage is legally recognized in 32 states, but is still illegal in 18 states.
